Village Gate
The renovation of an end of terrace town house built in the 1990’s
We were appointed to find ways to improve the ground floor living spaces, deal with a cold, draughty conservatory and make the house generally warmer. Our solution was to reconfigure the kitchen and living space, creating a bench along one wall for dining. We retained the existing timber conservatory, adding triple-glazed rooflights, insulating the walls, and installing a heater. We also formed new openings in the wall between the living space and conservatory to bring light into the house and create better views of the garden. A new stove on a plinth of Liscannor limestone was installed in the existing fireplace. These low-cost interventions were complimented by the bespoke bench and storage unit in oiled Eurpoean oak.

“The real JEWEL was in bringing light into the living area. This was achieved by putting in two interior windows. At first I was sceptical but the effect was amazing. We have light and space all year round. Nearly three years on, showing signs of living, it has retained its magic!”
